Fylde Rugby season suspended but training still so important for players says head coach Warren Spragg
The Rugby Football Union have confirmed this week that the league season at Fylde’s level, National Two North, and at all levels below the Championship will not start before January due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The Woodlands club began pre-season training in August and have stepped this up in recent weeks as changing guidelines allowed clubs to train in larger groups and with more full contact.

Hide AdSpragg says an immediate decision facing the club is whether to suspend training until details about the season become clearer. But he is convinced the players will wish to continue.
Spragg told The Gazette: “I think it’s really important that we are allowed to train because the health and well-being of the players is of paramount importance.
“We must remember that the players can’t socialise with their mates under the current restrictions but they can be together with their mates on a pitch playing organised sport.
“I think that is really important for players and I think most of them would want to carry on training.”

Hide AdSpragg is hopeful that Fylde will be allowed to play friendlies in December before starting a 15-game league season the following month.
Fylde’s agm was due to take place last night, with new appointments to key committee posts expected to be made.
