Retiring captain Adam Lewis tips Fylde for great future

Fylde are planning a reopening event but this will only take place when the club is satisfied it is safe to admit people to the clubhouse.

Serious training at Fylde will resume only when phase three of the RFU’s Return to Rugby Road Map for the community game has been reached. This would allow training in larger groups with limited contact, and with social-distancing potentially not required at all times. The ‘Road Map’ is currently at phase two – training is restricted to small groups, and with no close contact and social-distancing measures in place.

A Fylde RFC statement reads; “Despite the cessation of all rugby and social activities at the Woodlands since the lockdown began in March, there has been extensive work by club officials going on behind the scenes – socially-distanced of course.

“All income streams have dried up, whilst we continue to incur overhead costs associated with the clubhouse and estate. The club’s cash and other assets are being very carefully monitored and managed.

“Funds from governmental (national and local) and sporting sources as well as from the Centenary Appeal are helping us at this tricky time. We are extremely grateful for the generosity of some members and others in this regard. Whilst we are desperate to get back to something like normal, Fylde RFC will re-open only when we receive guidance that it is safe to do so.

“A detailed contingency plan is guiding officers and a team of people are project-managing this.

“Some members have also volunteered to support the reopening planning. Risk assessments are a critical element in planning.

“We are working closely with our hospitality partner Campbell & Rowley to ensure we are ready to go once we get the green light to reopen the clubhouse.

“First team head coach Warren Spragg is working hard to assemble a talented and competitive squad which will do the club justice in National Two (North). News of re-signed players and newcomers will soon be released through our media/digital channels.

“Until we are able to restart rugby and social activities, please stay safe and follow Government guidelines. In the meanwhile, the Woodlands Memorial Ground remains closed to members and the public.
