Blackpool's netball star cannot save England from a third defeat

England took on a side made up of players from the national Superleague competition in a three-game series at Loughborough which replaced the planned internationals against Jamaica.

Bispham-based Manchester Thunder goal attack player Cardwell was outstanding off the bench in the first game, then started the other two as England recorded 70-54, 67-44 and 55-43 victories in matches played on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

The versatile Cardwell, 26, has won 30 England caps since emerging on to the international scene in 2016.

She also impressed in the series away to world champions New Zealand in November and in the Vitality Nations Cup on these shores 12 months ago, when England finished in third place. The past week’s matches were England’s first at home since the outbreak of coronavirus.

The Superleague season was cancelled last year because of the pandemic, after Cardwell helped Thunder to lift their third title in 2019.
