The ESPP is open to all pupils in the senior school, whatever their sporting interest, and will look to extend their sporting experience by addressing the physical, psychological, technical and tactical aspects of sport, drawing on the expertise of sports science specialists, alumni and local professionals.

The first high-profile sportsperson to contribute will be GB Olympic athlete and Commonwealth Games medallist Helen Clitheroe, who will give the pupils an insight into her sporting journey.

Furthering the school’s links with the University of Central Lancashire, its students will deliver a wide-ranging series of workshops, covering such areas as training, recovery and injury prevention. The students will also deliver sessions on strength and conditioning and performance analysis.

Caterers Chartwells will deliver a series of modules based around healthy eating and sports nutrition.

The programme is designed to enhance the students’ focus, motivation and commitment towards developing and improving in sport.

AKS’ deputy director of sport Miss De Miranda said: “Many skills that develop the character of a person can be learnt through organised training and playing of sport.”
