Supplementing it is the £60,000 Pinnacle Stakes over 12 furlongs.

Trainer Roger Varian could go for a notable hat-trick, with Ferdoos and Shimmering Surf having won for the Newmarket yard in the past two seasons.

With two listed affairs over six furlongs on the Haydock card, a top-notch afternoon of entertainment is in prospect

There is also action at the Lancashire track on Friday, when the five-furlong Achilles Stakes takes top billing.

Newmarket also puts on a double-header - the accent, especially on Saturday, is very much on big-field handicaps

Beverley’s Brian Yeardley Continental Two-Year-Old Trophy is well worth close inspection, too, as it usually takes a sharp one to win it.

Sunday is all about Irish racing, with The Curragh putting on an excellent decent card which is spearheaded by the TRM Silver Stakes, a listed event over 10 furlongs.
