Junior athletics review: Blackpool Wyre and Fylde

With the track and field season having finished, focus is now on the cross country and road scene.

The second Mid Lancs cross country fixture takes place at Cuerden Valley, Preston, on Saturday.

Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde junior athletes kept in practice at two events last weekend.

Danielle and Bethany Whipp ran their first Parkruns at Lytham Hall on Saturday.

For 14-year-old Danielle it proved a happy experience as she ran the 5km with a smile on her face, finishing 19th overall and first female in 20mins, 19 secs.

Bethany, aged 11, enjoyed the run despite a fall, finishing 45th with 22:32, just behind Imogen Reader, who posted a new course personal best of 22:30.

For 12-year-old Lucy Tickle it was her 72nd Parkrun – her 17th at Lytham Hall – and she was 21st in 21:47. Daniel Mathew posted a course pb of 21:19 in 29th place.

The next day Lucy Tickle was again running, this time at the Mile Fun Run, before the Fairclough 5 Mile race.

On a beautiful course at Stanah Country Park, beside the River Wyre, Lucy finished second in 5:48, with Taylor Holland third in 6:02. Nine-year-old Gracie Scott was ninth in 6:28.

Later in the main Fairclough 5, 15-year-old Jess Jackson ran her first five-mile race and finished 66th in 39:20.
