Racing tips: Goodwood glory for Torcedor?

The race will, of course, pivot around the fortunes of Stradivarius, last year’s progressive winner who added the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot to what has become a starspangled CV.

In a race that could go down to smallest of margins, Torcedor is quietly fancied to stop the bonus-hunting Stradivarius in his tracks.

Dark Vision can make a seamless transition into Group Two company by winning the Qatar Vintage Stakes.

Mark Johnston’s strapping young colt is unbeaten in two starts and looked the real deal at York when he won a strong novice auction stakes by two-and-a-quarter lengths.

Suedois is a most underrated thoroughbred from David O’Meara’s yard and gets the nod in the Qatar Lennox Stakes.

The Group One-winning seven-year-old was narrowly defeated in the Summer Mile at Ascot last time, but that should have him spot-on for this assignment.

It will be interesting to see how he goes back over seven furlongs.

Boom The Groom won the Chelsea Barracks Handicap two years ago and looks appealingly weighted for a repeat bid.

Tony Carroll’s seven-year-old has not quite ignited this season, but he likes it at Goodwood and now finds himself 12lb lower in the handicap than when he last won a race.
