Hoad Hill race makes a welcome return

Lee Barlow was the leading Wesham runner, coming in 18th in 37:20.

Alan Hudson was 50th in 42:44 and Tanya Barlow improved her standing as she regains her fitness, finishing 127th in 51:16.

This was a popular race with 238 finishers and the winning times were 31:59 for the men and 37:45 for the leading woman.

There were a handful of Wesham runners in the Guy’s 10-mile road race on Sunday as the 2017 club championship kicked off.

David Taylor ran over the finish line in 21st position with a time of 1:02.11.

Garry Barnett (39th, 1:04.57) was the next Wesham runner across the line, followed by Helen Lawrenson (98th, 1:13.52), Jason Blagden (136th, 1:18.18), Stephen Browne (138th, 1:18.22), Paul Carter (278th, 1:39.53) and Karen Davies (288th, 1:42.21).

It was fairly chaotic at the Northern Masters Christmas Sherry and Mince Pie Predictor race as a 6,000m track run had been planned due to lack of officials.

However, a separate group arrived early and marked out the usual 5K and 10K trail route so three events took place; the 6,000m track predictor as well as a 5K and 10K trail run.

Dave Waywell took on the 5K trail race and finished second with a difference of 1:05 from his predicted to actual time.

Kath Hoyer was spot on with her predicted 10K trail time coming within 37 seconds to record the best difference.

The three closest predictions were all eight seconds with a tie on the track and the best time on the 5K trail.

Chris Moss was the leading Wesham runner in the Lancaster 3-1-5 Half Marathon.

He turned the tables on running partner Alan Taylor by coming in 80th in 1.44.11 with Taylor 89th in 1:46.18 and Jenn Salt 93rd in 1:47.51.

Paul Carter was the only Wesham runner in the Best 5K in Preston last week, running 27:18 to finish in 59th place.

There was a good turnout at the Lytham Hall parkrun on Saturday morning as Simon Denye clocked 19:41, pacing his son George, and Helen Lawrenson a personal best time of 20.55.

Eliot Costello clocked 21:47, Ryan Azzopardi 22:13, Ben Wrigley 22:51, Phil Leaver 23:33, Finlay McCalman 26:49, Diane Blagden 27:26, Paul Carter 27:38, Caz Wadsworth 28:17, Kim McGuire 28:19, Kerry Eccles 28:30 and Debbie Bell 31:31.

Steve Myerscough was the Wesham team leader at the Preston parkrun, finishing in 19:49 with Aaron Galvin back in 20:34 and Nigel Shepherd in 21:04.

The Wesham parkrun tourists headed to Princes Park in Liverpool where David Taylor ran the second fastest time of the morning with 18:26.

Steven Gore recorded 19:34, Megan Gore and Vicky Gore both finished in 35:51, while Martin Bates had a time of 22:51.
