Fylde sign Premiership centre Bedlow

Fylde rugby club have signed Sale Sharks’ centre Sam Bedlow on a dual registration.

And he could figure in the Fylde squad for this afternoon’s clash at Darlington Mowden Park in National League One.

The 19-year-old is a product of Rossendale RUFC, Myerscough College and Sale Sharks academy.

Bedlow made four National Two (North) appearances for Preston Grasshoppers last season and has represented Lancashire and the North under-18s.

He has been a regular in the Sale Jets squad in the 2013-14 & 2014-15 seasons.

Fylde coach Mark Nelson said: “I am delighted Sam has joined us.

“He’s been on my radar for some time and I have been tracking him through liaison with Ray Unsworth and Dave Wilks at Sale Sharks.

“He is another very promising back who will be a great addition to the squad.”

“Along with summer arrival Tommy Banks, they are joining a midfield that has local talent in Ralph Dowds and Charles Hough, as well as the great addition of Scott Rawlings and Chris Briers.”

Bedlow said: “I think playing for Fylde in National One will be a great experience for me.

“To play alongside some very experienced players will give me the opportunity to further my rugby knowledge.

“I am excited to participate in the running rugby Fylde are renowned for.”

The former Haslingden High School student also pays particular tribute to his local club where he learned his rugby.

He said: “My dad coached at Rossendale and I loved playing there – it is a brilliant club and they helped me so much.

“But my game has really developed playing for Sale’s Academy squad.”
