Wilson '˜buzzing' after signing Blackpool deal

Macauley Wilson has signed a deal at Bloomfield Road

The 18-year-old former Lytham Juniors defender has agreed a one-year-old contract with the option of another 12 months after impressing for the club’s youth team this season.

Wilson joined Blackpool from Manchester United three years ago and was part of the same team as Marcus Rashford and fellow Lytham lad Joe Riley at Old Trafford.

And after putting pen to paper, the right-back says he can’t wait to make his name at Bloomfield Road.

“I’m buzzing to get started,” he said. “I need to work hard to impress the manager and hopefully I’ll get my chance.

“I’ve known for a while I’d been offered the contract and I’m really pleased to have it signed now.”

While he’s yet to make his first team debut, Wilson was on the bench for Pool’s Johnstone’s Paint win against Port Vale last year and captain’s the club’s youth team.

A dead-ball specialist, Wilson has fired 12 goals already this season from right-back, including a hattrick against Shrewsbury Town.

He’s been training with the first team squad in recent months after being promoted by Neil McDonald, and he’s hoping he can soon break into the first team.

He said: “The manager has told me just to keep working hard and try to impress whenever I get the chance.

“I feel I’ve done OK when I’ve had the chance to train with the first team, although it’s a big step-up.

“It’s a big step for me now. I’ve tried my hardest all season, scored quite a few goals and I feel I’ve done alright when I’ve stepped up to first-team training.

“I’ve never looked back since joining Blackpool and I can’t wait for the future.”

Wilson joins Luke Higham, Henry Cameron and Bright Osayi-Samuel as the latest graduates from the club’s youth academy.

And after watching Dom Telford and Mark Waddington earn moves to Premier League side Stoke City after breaking through the youth system, Wilson hopes he can be the latest to make his name.

“It really helps to have the other lads around,” he explained.

“Luke, Bright and Henry help, they make the move easy when I come up.

“Dom and Waddo went to Stoke, Luke is also doing really well in the first team.

“Hopefully I can follow in their footsteps.”
