Walsall 1 Blackpool 1 - Philliskirk rescues Pool a late point

The striker reacted quickest to slam home from seven yards after a free-kick from debutant Uche Ikpeazu was blocked.

It was a bit of luck the Seasiders deserved after a battling display against their One high-flying hosts.

In the first half Neil McDonald would have been the happier of the two managers, as his side created a number of decent chances.

The best fell to Jack Redshaw when he finished a brilliant counter attack involving Hayden White, sadly it was straight down the throat of keeper Neil Etheridge.

Brad Potts had Pool’s other decent effort, forcing a save from 18 yards.

After the break Walsall had more of a spring in their step and always looked the most likely to break the deadlock.

Ironically it was the Saddlers’ two full-back who combined for the goal, left-back Andy Taylor firing across goal where right-back Jason Demetriou was to tap-home from five yards.

Pool almost draw themselves level instantly, when David Norris played new boy Uche Ikpeazu into the area, only for his effort from a tight angle to be beat away by the keeper.

As the game looked to be drifting away from Blackpool, they dragged themselves back into the game deep into stoppage time.

Philliskirk chased a ball over the top and was fouled right at the edge of the area, and from the resulting free-kick the striker reacted quickest to Ikpeazu’s blocked effort to slam it home.

Blackpool’s players and fans had huge celebrations, and to be fair they deserved it.
