Top half should be Fleetwood Town's target

The Cod Army’s four-game winning streak has seen them climb away from the relegation zone and up to 13th, just two points off the top half.

Town now face fourth-placed Rotherham United this afternoon but Madden says there’s no reason why his side can’t add another win to their tally to push them even higher up the league table.

“The way things stand now we’ve got to be looking at the top half of the table,” Madden said.

“You have to set your sights high and we’re in good form at the minute.

“I know it’s a cliché but you really do have to take each game as it comes and try and keep racking up those points.

“I don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t go into this game full of confidence.

“It’s going to be a tough place to go, there’s no doubt about it, but if we play the way we have been playing we will beat anyone in this league.

“I expect a free-flowing game and a lot of chances, which suits us.”

Fleetwood’s turnaround has been masterminded by new boss John Sheridan, who has yet to be beaten during his time at Highbury.

However Sheridan’s deal only lasts until the end of the season – something Madden is keen to change.

“Personally I would love it if the gaffer stayed,” Madden added.

“He brings that sort of bubbly personality and positivity to the place so me personally I’d love to see him stay here longer.

“It’s been a wonderful turnaround. He’s brought that positive vibe, lifted spirits and the results speak for themselves.

“You find a lot of managers don’t give attackers that free role. At the end of the day, strikers are strikers, they’re paid to score goals.

“The way the gaffer likes to play, you know the strikers are going to get chances. So as an attacker, I can’t speak highly enough of the gaffer.

“Every day it’s all about football, so when you come in for training you know you’re actually going to improve as a player.

“I find with some managers they do a lot of work on shape, but there’s only so much shape you can do.

“At the end of the day you need to improve as a player and the only way to do that is by playing football. If you do that, you’re going to improve. So the lads are now coming into training with a smile on their faces.”
