Terry McPhillips holds more talks over Blackpool manager's job and continues striker search

Macclesfield edged the penalty shootout 5-3 but the Seasiders still take home a point after a remarkable comeback, scoring twice in the last five minutes after trailing 3-1.

McPhillips, who has not lost since the first of his eight games as interim boss, met with the club before yesterday’s game and is due to hold further talks on Thursday.

He said after last night’s six-goal thriller: “I spoke to the club earlier today and we’ve got a meeting on Thursday, so I’m looking forward to that.

“But the spirit of the lads to get the two goals at the death was terrific and sort of epitomises what we’re all about.

“We didn’t take a lot of our chances, so guess what we’re doing on Thursday? Crossing and finishing.

“The crossing was fine to be fair – it was just the finishing. But we will cross and we will finish and we’ll have to do better. It’s as simple as that. Liam Feeney was awesome, he was relentless. He kept putting it in right on the money.

“Some of the chances were hard to miss but we did. It wasn’t for the want of trying and the spirit of the lads to get the two goals at the death is really pleasing.

“We should have scored more and probably could have won 8-5 or 8-6. There were chances at both ends.

“We were always going to be open and expansive, and there were always going to be chances.

“I thought Macclesfield were good. They were a handful up front and were desperate to win as well.

“If you count up all the chances, we had the most. We just didn’t take enough.”

Pool’s wastefulness in front of goal will only intensify their search for a new striker.

McPhillips said: “We’ve got one or two coming in. Hopefully one comes in Thursday. We had one come in on Monday.

“So we’re still looking and there are still a few out there, these unattached players. We will keep trawling through and see what we can come up with.”

Asked if he expects a signing before Saturday’s game against Bradford City, McPhillips added: “I’m not sure about that but we’ve got a new one coming in, so we’ll see how he does.”
