The Seasiders go into the crucial clash against neighbours Fleetwood knowing anything but a win would leave them in deep trouble in the League One table.

On the flip side victory would climb them out of the bottom four, with games against Wigan and Peterborough their final two of the season.

And after a shocker at Rochdale last weekend, McDonald has promised changes.

“You’ll see a different team, that’s for sure,” promised the Blackpool boss.

“I’ve already picked the team. We have been working on it this week and around what Fleetwood are good and bad at, so it won’t be a last minute thing.

“I’ve already named the team to the players.”

Despite watching Fleetwood in action in recent weeks, McDonald was not keen on talking about today’s opponents ahead of the game. While he admitted their 1-0 defeat to Millwall on Tuesday helped Pool’s cause, he insisted it’s all about what his side do.

He said: “I haven’t really concentrated on Fleetwood to be honest, I’m concentrating on Blackpool.

“Tuesday’s results has given us a massive boost that they didn’t pull away from us.

“But we have to concentrate on our results and the knowledge that if we beat Fleetwood we’ll be out the bottom four.”

Pool’s players have been working on shape ahead of today’s game for the last couple of days, something McDonald is desperate to keep under wraps.

“We have a few bumps and bruises but I’ll keep them close to our chests,” he said.

“I’m usually quite open with injuries and things but I’m deciding to keep our cards close to our chests.

“I try to keep the information as basic as possible, I try to get them to enjoy training.

“It’s then about making sure they know our game plan.

“In the last couple of games we haven’t processed the information as well as we should have. I’m sure we’ll be ready this afternoon.”
