Striker Scott gets better every day says Blackpool coach

The striker made his Seasiders debut in Tuesday’s Checkatrade Trophy outing against Wigan Athletic after joining from The New Saints a fortnight ago.

A 71-minute appearance saw the 24-year-old display some nice touches and go close to scoring on two occasions. With Mark Cullen injured and Jamille Matt on loan at Grimsby Town for the rest of the season, Quigley is now the man putting pressure on Kyle Vassell for a starting spot up front.

“Scott had a couple of chances and impressed us first half getting hold of the ball,” said Kyle. “He linked the play well.

“There were a couple of times we thought he might take his chance but he’s only going to get better.

“He’s getting better each day in training and we will do the work with him.

“Hopefully he will be a success as the season goes on.”

Quigley wasn’t the only player to impress on Tuesday, with Nathan Delfouneso producing a fine performance.

Having been used in the centre of midfield at the start of the season, Delfouneso featured on the left wing against Wigan and was arguably the Seasiders’ standout player.

Kyle said: “That’s the thing with Nathan – he’s flexible because he can play on the left, on the right, in the middle or up front.

“He was causing problems on the left and we know he can do a good job.

“We want everyone to give the manager a headache. There is competition for places and they need to keep performing.

“We have said they have to make sure they keep putting in the performances , so we can rely on them when they come in.”

Matt’s loan departure may possibly open the door for a new arrival at Bloomfield Road before the transfer window closes at 11pm.

Bowyer has said that any incoming player must improve the existing squad, though he is happy with what he has at his disposal.

Kyle played the straightest of bats in response to queries about late signings.

“You never know,” he said. “I’ve been in this position a couple of times before where sometimes things happen and sometimes it’s quiet. Anything is possible. We will always keep the door open.”
