Ched Evans wants to show he has still has the clinical touch in front of goal after marking his first Fleetwood Town appearance by finding the net.

Twenty-four hours after agreeing a season-long loan move from Sheffield United, the Welshman netted in last Saturday’s friendly win at Tranmere Rovers.

The 29-year-old is looking to rediscover his golden touch after a blank 2017/18 season for his parent club.

Evans is hoping to continue a trend, having scored on his first league start for all his clubs – barring Manchester City and his second spell at Sheffield United.

He said: “I’ve scored on every debut I have ever played other than City.

“But the one that counts most is the first league game of the season so hopefully I can be a part of that and keep that record going.”

He has netted for the Blades in pre-season and says that things are looking good given his form and the fact he is yet to start a game thus far.

But that could change this Saturday when Town head to League Two side Morecambe, seven days before the League One season-opener against AFC Wimbledon at Highbury on Saturday, August 4.

He said: “I played last week, scored, scored again in my second game and I’ve not started a game yet which can only be a positive.”

Evans was one of three signings who joined the club on Friday.

The striker was the only player fit enough to feature in the 2-0 win over Tranmere at Prenton Park as his fellow new arrivals Chris Long and James Wallace missed out.

He said: “I don’t see the point in beating around the bush and stuff like that.

“I would not say I was at my fittest yet.

“More games and more minutes on the pitch are certainly going to benefit me and make me a better player so I’m just really happy to be out there with the lads.

“You can look at that game and take so many positives from it, I can take so many positives from it.”
