Season suspended 'indefinitely' for AFC Fylde and other National League clubs

Evans told The Gazette: “I understand the situation clubs are in with promotion and relegation but you’re always going to have people who will really want the season not to be null and void.

“I’m sure there would be people petitioning the other way if they went down on points-per-game. They could easily say they would have got out of trouble if they’d played on.

“You can’t win and there is definitely a stand-off between the league and the FA. From the letter they sent out, it seems the league weren’t consulted and so they feel they had their powers taken away.

“When some of the other leagues were postponing games because of coronavirus (on March 14), the North West Counties decided to play on. We actually played a game away at Hanley.

“It’s more about the FA making a decision for everyone rather than individual cases.”
