Squad key for Fleetwood boss ahead of Grezza's return

Fleetwood head coach Uwe Rosler has stressed his belief that football is a squad game as Town prepare for a third match in eight days at home to their former boss Graham Alexander's Scunthorpe.

Town have had one less day to recover than the Iron, who continued their perfect start to the new campaign with a 2-0 win over Notts County in the EFL Cup on Tuesday, while Fleetwood’s gruelling tie with Leeds went to penalties 24 hours later.

Rosler says that defeat tested his side physically and psychologically, and he believes they must dig deep to “grind out” a result tomorrow.

He said: “That game and the draw at Northampton should give us confidence. I told them we will not be judged and measured on the cup competition – we will be judged on the league.

“We put a lot in on Wed-nesday. We have to find a way to grind out the result.

“It will be tough considering the depth in our squad, but with the character the boys have shown I think it is possible to get a result.”

Striker Aaron Amadi-Holloway marked his home debut with a goal against Leeds and Rosler says the gamble of playing him after a broken ankle paid off.

He said: “I think it worked well. I think they had problems with our three central strikers (David Ball and Devante Cole were the others).

“It was a risk to start Aaron because he had not played in pre-season.

“We knew that he would not last long and that we would have to make a substitution after 50 or 60 minutes. I thought he was terrific.”

And with fixtures coming thick and fast, Rosler stressed he will be making full use of his squad. “For me football is a squad game, especially with a fixture list like we have,” he said.

“If we had a play-off final tomorrow I know the team that would start but we also have to rotate in certain games, especially because of how we want to play.

“We want high energy, with quick transition and pressing, so we need to refresh certain areas.

“That is why even when you have a good game or five good games, it does not necessarily mean that you start the next one.

“Sometimes it is psychologically better to play, sometimes the medical and fitness staff will advise that it might be better to let players come from the bench.

“It is a team sport, a squad game, and I can’t tell you how many changes I will make on Saturday because I do not know at this time.

“I’ve watched Scun-thorpe’s games. We have been discussing our game plan and we will know more on Friday.”
