Simon Grayson determined to earn longer Fleetwood Town contract

The two-time Blackpool boss was appointed at Highbury on Sunday with a contract which runs until the end of the season, so there are no guarantees he will still be in charge for the 2021/22 campaign.
Despite having won promotion from League One with four clubs, dismissals from two of his last three posts mean Grayson’s stock is perhaps lower than before.

In his first press conference yesterday, Grayson said: “I’ve only been here 24 hours, so it’s been very difficult to plan beyond 24 or 48 hours, but of course I’m going to back my ability.
“I’m going to back that I’m going to be here (beyond the season). It would be foolish of me not to help plan for the football club and what they’re going to do in the summer, in terms of recruitment and pre-season.
“I’m planning on being here. Ideally I’d have liked to have had a longer contract, like every other manager, but if you said to me it’s until the end of the season or nothing, then I’m prepared to back myself.

“Hopefully we can work closely together to make this football club successful again. Hopefully I’m here a number of years and leave another football club in a good state.”
Grayson and Pilley will be open to question at an online fans' forum for the club's Onward Card holders on Thursday evening.
