Draw with Lincoln a fair outcome says Fleetwood boss Joey Barton

Finley was given an eight-match suspension by the FA earlier in the year for abusive language towards an opponent, as well as serving a two-game ban for 10 yellow cards picked up while with former club Accrington Stanley.

He left Stanley by mutual consent during the summer and was quickly snapped up by Town head coach Joey Barton.

Finley has been an onlooker during Town’s recent run of games but has been training with the first team throughout that time.

Ironically, the first game in which the 28-year-old can figure for the club is tonight’s trip to Accrington (7pm).

Finley said: “It’s felt a long time coming but I’ve been training well, doing extra fitness sessions most days – double sessions.

“I’m looking forward to it, I can’t wait to get going.

“I know it’s the old cliche but it is just another game.”

“With me having the lengthy spell out it’s just my first game back, regardless of who it’s against.”

Finley also reiterated nobody should take Accrington lightly as they consolidate themselves in League One.

He said: “They’re a good side, their work rate is unbelievable.

“John Coleman (manager), John Doolan (coach) and Jimmy Bell (assistant manager) will be expecting front foot football from them and pressing from the front.

“I found a lot of teams did disrespect Accrington when I first joined them and they got a bit of a rude awakening.

“The gaffer (Barton) here knows and everyone knows they’ve been in League One for the last two seasons now.

“He’ll know what to expect and what will probably come our way. It should be an interesting game.”
