It was initially thought Ryan would only miss a couple of games after picking up a foot injury in last month’s defeat at Port Vale.

However, Ryan has been unable to shake off the knock and has undergone a minor operation which will sideline him for several more weeks.

Since Ryan limped off in the first half at Vale Park, 21-year-old Manchester City loanee George Glendon has slotted seamlessly into Town’s midfield three.

Glendon has been involved at City from the age of five but made his first- ever league outing at Port Vale. He has since started Town’s last five games – three in the league and two in the FA Cup – in which they are unbeaten.

Now Glendon feels his career is progressing. “I hadn’t been on loan previously, which put other clubs off,” he said. “I was impressed by the facilities at Fleetwood and how the team plays.

“It was a slow start but things are beginning to happen. You never know when you have to be ready and Jimmy’s injury gave me a chance.

“The Carlisle game in the EFL Trophy showed the manager I could handle myself against a decent league side on good form.

“Now I have made my first appearances in the League and FA Cup I feel that my career is beginning to kick on.”
