The 47-year-old watched Town’s final friendly game against his old club Wigan from the directors box with Pilley and Town’s technical director Gretar Steinsson last night but has just penned a two-year deal.

After a hugely successful playing career, Uwe moved into management in Norway with Lillestrom and Viking before guiding Brentford to promotion from League One in 2012.

He then moved into the Championship with Wigan Athletic, reaching the play-offs and an FA Cup semi-final, before enjoying a spell at Leeds United.

Fleetwood have acted swiftly to replace Steven Pressley after his shock departure.

Pressley resigned from his role as manager on Tuesday but Town have moved quickly to secure the services of Rosler with the new League One campaign just a week away from kick-off at Northampton.

The new head coach says he had a number of options both in the U.K and abroad but says the opportunity at Highbury was something he could not turn down.

Head coach Rosler, will meet the players and take training for the first time on Monday morning.

He said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have an agreement in place and I am now really looking forward to starting work.

“Fleetwood is a special club with a special recent history in the way they have grown the club and the facilities, as well as winning so many promotions to now be playing in League One.

“I had several options in the UK and abroad but I was waiting for an opportunity and challenge like this to come along.

“The discussions I had with the owner Andy Pilley and Technical Director Gretar Steinsson really impressed me and I feel I can put my stamp on Fleetwood Town.

“I am very ambitious and I know the owner is too, we all want to be successful here together.

“The club is a huge success story so far and hopefully I can now help write a new chapter.”

Chairman Pilley says Rosler’s attacking style of football is something that excites him and should excite the Cod Army.
