Dempsey was stretchered off at the end of Town’s 2-1 win over Walsall after Matt Preston’s late challenge left him with a deep, open wound on his leg.

The young midfielder was taken straight to hospital and received gas and air to cope with the pain.

The severity of the injury is not yet known but Rosler slammed Preston for the ‘disgraceful’ tackle that will surely see Dempsey join Jimmy Ryan (foot), Michael Duckworth (groin), Martyn Woolford (knee) and Ash Eastham (jaw) in the treatment room.

Goals from Ash Hunter and Bobby Grant gave Town a 2-0 lead before young Walsall player George Dobson reduced the deficit.

But Town’s impressive performance – their first win over Walsall and one which saw them move up to seventh in the League One table – was overshadowed by Preston’s late challenge.

Rosler said: “I’m delighted with the players, their application, performance, spirit but we paid a heavy price.

“Our thoughts and my thoughts are with the player; we will see overnight what happens.

“I have to compose myself because I really enjoyed the game but I think how the game ended with Kyle is a bitter taste for myself.”

“I took myself away from the players because they should enjoy their three points.

“We can’t panic now we have to see first what is the diagnosis. I hope it is only a cut, that is my strong hope and if that is the case then we will be OK.”
