Rosler expecting physical Cobblers test

Fleetwood head coach Uwe Rosler says his players need to be brave on the attack, up for the fight and prepared to play football against a physical Northampton side on Saturday.

Rosler is set to take charge of his new side for the first time at Sixfields tomorrow where his opposite number, Rob Page, will be making his league bow as the new Cobblers boss.

Unlike Rosler, who has had just five days to prepare his men for the Northampton game after taking over from Steven Pressley, Page has had most of the summer to put a stamp on his side.

Page made the leap from Port Vale to the Cobblers this summer after Chris Wilder, who guided Northampton to League One, left to join Sheffield United.

Rosler may have had a short time to make his mark at Poolfoot Farm but he believes his side is capable of beating anyone in the league on their day.

He said: “I know the manager, I know how he plays. Port Vale is not so far from Cheshire so I have been over there quite a bit and watched his team. I think it will be tough because they are a newly-promoted team and they have a momentum going, they have made some good signings and obviously they will want to start with a victory.

“First and foremost it is very important that we are up for the fight, for their direct style, up for the duals and then that we play football when we have the ball.

“Pre-season is gone, good results, bad results, it is gone, now we have to be ready for the fight and for the real league football.

“I know what we will face and it is now up to us to stand up, to focus on our game and cope with the physicality of League One football.

“Then we play our football, be brave to attack and go their with the mindset of winning and I think that will take us a long way, so I’m looking forward to it because you find out the most information abut your players when the games come.”

After spending a few days assessing his squad Rosler has identified areas that need boosting.

He added: “I don’t think there will be a player coming in before Northampton.

“We have identified one or two areas where we are looking to bring something in but like I said before we will not come in here, change everything around and bring in a whole lot of new players in.

“First of all the budget is not allowing that, second of all I don’t think it is the right idea either.

“I think it is fair, this club has stability off the field and also it is important we have a certain stability on the field as well and players who have done very well in the past for the football club; I think it is important they are playing a big part in the future too.”
