Town slipped seven points behind second-placed Bolton Wanderers, while Bradford City climbed level on points with Rosler’s third-placed side after the 1-0 loss against struggling Swindon.

It was only Fleetwood’s second defeat in a 23-game run, and while Rosler admitted they were disappointed to lose at home, he claimed his players will learn from the experience.

Of Town’s squad, only skipper Nathan Pond and midfielder Martyn Woolford are the only footballers in his squad to have been involved in a promotion fight before.

Rosler said: “We are all disappointed; when you aree a professional footballer it does not matter where you are in the league, when you lose a home game you are always disappointed.

“There would be something majorly wrong when we would not be disappointed.

“I don’t think it will knock us. Apart from Pondy and Woolford nobody had been in that situation before.

“Every game, every experience will make us as a group better – that is where we are at the moment.

“We are fighting, hanging in there; we have six games to go.”

Woolford and Pond were unused substitutes on the bench with striker Wes Burns enjoying a 20-minute cameo after recovering from the ankle injury that had sidelined him since the goalless draw with Rochdale in February.

But despite Burns’ introduction Fleetwood failed to fire for the third successive game.

Ash Hunter wasted a golden opportunity, firing wide when one-on-one with the Swindon keeper just four minutes before half-time.

Town were made to pay for that miss when Swindon’s Nicky Ajose popped up with an 82nd minute winner.

However, Rosler says they will keep working on things and that the goals will flow again.

He said: “We had a great attack with Ash Hunter but at the moment those balls don’t go in, that is the fact.

“We need to work on that, I’m sure when we put ourselves more and more in those situations the ball will eventually go in again.”
