The Blackpool defender got the call in the early hours of Monday morning to say his partner Karla had gone into labour, prompting a 300-mile drive to his home town of Aberdeen just in time to see the birth of his first child at 7am.

After spending time with son Cole Taylor Robertson – a February 29 baby weighing in at eight pounds, two and a half ounces – the proud dad boarded a plane and arrived at the Proact Stadium just in time for last night’s game.

The 22-year-old said: “I got the call at 12.30am and got in the car as soon as I could. I made it to the birth just in time.”

Robertson played 90 minutes at the heart of Pool’s defence last night and left the stadium with praise from boss Neil McDonald ringing in his ears.

The manager said: “Clark went back up to Scotland and came back just before the game, so his performance was a real a credit.

“He flew down before the game and has left his car up in Scotland.

“Considering all that, his performance was outstanding. He put a real shift in for the team and for his new son.”
