Kelly joined the club in August 2016 as Uwe Rosler's assistant head coach.

When Rosler was sacked in February 2018 with Town in the midst of a relegation battle Kelly remained at the club.

The 53-year-old ex-PNE coach stepped back from first team coaching duties at the League One club as Barry Nicholson took caretaker charge before John Sheridan filled the head coach role.

But Kelly had remained under contract until now when an agreement was reached to cancel the former Leicester City player's contract at Highbury.

Now as Joey Barton starts his new chapter as Fleetwood's new head coach Kelly has left for pastures new.

Rosler took on the head coach role at Swedish giants Malmo but Kelly has not followed him to Scandinavia.

Instead Kelly has teamed up with Lowe, a man he managed for a brief time during his caretaker role at Sheffield Wednesday when Lowe was still playing.

The 39-year-old is in his first managerial role at Bury, who were relegated from League One last term.

And now he has added to his back room staff with Kelly leaving Town to take on the assistant role at the now League Two side.

Fleetwood confirmed Kelly had not been working with Barton's team prior to his exit but thanked him for his contributions.

They wrote: "Everyone at the club would like to wish Rob all the best for the future, and thank him for his contributions whilst at Highbury."
