Pub landlord gets shirty to help Brazil’s poorest

Do you have a football shirt or two going spare? Then head down to a Fylde pub and do your part to help some of the world’s poorest children.

Craig Daniels, landlord at The County Pub, Church Road, Lytham, is encouraging football fans from across the Fylde coast to donate their old shirts to the pub, where they will be passed on to children from some of the poorest parts of Brazil ahead of this year’s World Cup.

Craig said: “We do a lot of charity work and we are working closely with Project Fairplay to gather as many shirts as possible to send over.

“We’re asking fans to dig out their unwanted football shirts, including children’s ones to donate.

“The old strips – instead of continuing to languish at the back of the wardrobe – will be taken directly to disadvantaged youngsters living in Brazil’s favelas, or slums, where they will be worn with pride as they excitedly watch the World Cup.”

If you have a shirt you wish to donate, they can be dropped off at the pub, where a Project Fairplay collection box is behind the bar.

Project Fairplay was launched four years ago when 20,000 football shirts were collected for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Shirts can be donated to the project until April 5 this year.
