Pool's Bright subs make their Mark

Bright Osayi-Samuel and Mark Cullen came off the bench to score in the Seasiders’ 2-0 win at Stevenage.

The game looked destined to end 0-0 as both sides struggled to get to grips with the wet and windy conditions.

But Osayi-Samuel’s curled finish from the edge of the box, his professional goal, separated the well-matched sides and Mark Cullen capped off the win after punishing a mistake.

“They were both wonderful finishes,” Bowyer said. “With Bright, it’s something we want him to do more of whether that be assists or goals. But it was a fabulous strike.

“We were delighted it was on that side because he’s predominantly right-sided, but he finished it with great care and I’m really pleased for him. It was a great way to get your first goal and it will be a very memorable one for him.

“It was wonderful from Cully as well. You saw his performance on Tuesday, his movement and workrate was outstanding. We just felt he looked sharp all week in training as well and we have that beauty where we can bring someone of his calibre in.

“He chased what seemed to be a lost cause and he never gave up on it, but what a fabulous finish.”

The win, Blackpool’s eighth in the league this season, saw Bowyer’s men return to seventh in the League Two table.

It also meant Pool won back-to-back away league games – and means they have only lost one in their last 11 league and cup outings.

Bowyer added: “We spoke about it after Doncaster, about the impact and quality of the squad, and I thought the impact of the two substitutions was terrific. It caps off a great week for us.”
