Pool 'ready' to climb the table, says Bowyer

Pool have been the embodiment of inconsistency so far this season – winning three, drawing five and losing four of their opening 12 games.

It means the Seasiders sit far lower in the League Two table than they would have expected and lower than their performances have deserved.

But Bowyer has moved to reassure fans that his players are working as hard as ever to go on a run of form.

The manager said: “There are always periods like this in seasons but credit to the players – they are hanging in there and keep grinding it out.

“Sooner or later it turns and we are ready for the turn.

“You have spells like this, but the important thing is to stay in there. You don’t get too down, lie down and die and we haven’t done that all season.”

Bowyer’s comments come after another frustrating game against Cambridge last Saturday, when they were forced to rely on an injury-time equaliser from Andy Taylor to salvage a 1-1 draw.

Far from happy at snatching a point from a game in which his side had 16 shots on goal to Cambridge’s four, the Pool boss insisted the points will come as long as his side continues to create chances.

He added: “You can beat yourselves up about it or you can smile and get on with it, and that’s exactly what we’ve done.

“We’ve knuckled down and got something out of the game, which is something we thoroughly deserved.

“When you’re creating as many chances as we are but not converting them, it is a concern but the players keep getting in there.

“But we have other players who can step up – it’s not just the attackers. We got a goal from a defender (left-back Taylor) and we want more from the defence.”
