Pool hit-man has new goal target

At the start of each season the striker sets himself a figure he’d like to hit in terms of goals, with this term’s aim being double figures.

He fired seven for Oldham before scoring twice in five appearances since joining the Seasiders at the start of last month.

And ahead of a return to Boundary Park this weekend, Philliskirk admits he’s now aiming higher.

“I will take it game by game but I’m looking to score as many as I can,” he said.

“I got 14 goals in my first full season so it would be nice to beat that.

“But I just want to score as many as I can and keep Blackpool going forward.

“I set myself a target of double figures at the start of the season.

“That was when I was playing wide a lot at Oldham, but I’m on nine already now.

“I want to be positive in my play, if I keep getting into those positions hopefully more chances will fall to me.”

Philliskirk has caught the eye since his £75,000 move last month, playing every game since his arrival, with Pool unbeaten in their last four outings.

He’s expected to again lead the line again against Oldham on Saturday, and he feels the squad are doing a good job of blocking out all the off field problems at Blackpool, instead concentrating on just the football.

He said: “Everyone has a negative opinion about Blackpool. Whatever is happening outside isn’t to do with us and we are just sticking together inside the dressing room.

“I’ve really enjoyed the three games I’ve played so far.” Philliskirk began his career at Oldham before being pinched by Chelsea when he was youngster.

After a spell at Sheffield United he returned to Boundary Park before Blackpool made their move last month.

And Philliskirk hopes he can repay the faith shown in him by boss Neil McDonald.

“I’m still only 24 so I think I’ve got a few years at peak level ahead of me, especially with that bit of experience now,” he said.

“The manager took a chance on me, he wanted me and now I’ve got to repay that respect he’s given me.

“Hopefully I can score goals and pay him back in that way. As long as the team is winning and we’re playing well, that’s all I’m bothered about.”
