The allegation against the Seasiders owner has been made by Pool fan Stephen Reed following a defamation hearing in Manchester.

Mr Reed contacted police claiming Oyston, who gave evidence under oath during the hearing, had made claims which amounted to perjury.

In a statement, a spokesman for Lancashire Police said: “We can confirm we have received an allegation of perjury against a 48-year-old man.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”

The Gazette understands detectives are now weighing up the claims before deciding whether to formally speak to the Pool chairman over Mr Reed’s allegations.

Harassment cases brought by Oyston against David Ragozzino, of Oakwood Close, Marton and Reed, of Common Edge Road, Marton, were formally dropped by police in March.
