Oliver admits Blackpool boss '˜never fancied' him

The midfielder joined the League Two club on loan last week, having failed to make a league appearance for Pool since early September.

He made his Shrimps debut off the bench in Friday’s defeat by Plymouth and revealed he had to quit Blackpool after quickly realising he had no future at the club.

The 22-year-old said: “I played a lot last year in the Championship, when I first came in from Sunderland.

“Then we got relegated to League One but the new manager came in and he didn’t really fancy me.

“He was blunt enough with me and told me how it was, so from that point of view I just needed to get out of it.”

Oliver was signed by Lee Clark from Sunderland’s reserves in January last year but has found opportunities rare in a tangerine shirt.

Most of this season’s eight Pool appearances came off the bench, and with his contract up in the summer Oliver is looking at the longer-term.

He said: “Jim Bentley (Morecambe boss) showed interest and I was really keen to come in.

“Jack Redshaw (who joined Pool from the Shrimps last summer) spoke really well about the club and it was just about getting things done. It finally happened on the last day (before the loan deadline).

“I’ve just come in to play some games and impress, and to make an impact on the team if I can. Hopefully if I can impress the manager and the coaching staff that will put me in good stead for next season.”
