No cheap debuts says Grezza

Town have had a number of young hopefuls buzzing around the first team - the likes of Max Cartwright, Jack Sowerby, Akil Wright and Keano Deacon.

But Alexander made it clear he won’t blood any of those youngsters unless they deserve it – insisting to give them game time for the sake of it would devalue their progress.

Alexander said: “I’m not going to give anyone a chance in the first team because of their date of birth or because it’s their turn.

“They have to earn it.

“If there’s a young lad around the squad or the development squad who wants to get into our first team they are going to have to work very hard.

“They are going to have to show us they have the right talent and capabilities to be in there.

“We’re not going to throw debuts and so-forth out like confetti.

“It think it demeans the actual experience.”

Alexander wants to battle for every point available in the hope of securing a top half finish in Fleetwood’s first third-tier campaign.

He made it clear he won’t be using the next three games to experiment and anybody looking to break into his side will have to put in as much work as ever.

“For any young lad making his debut, he has to know he’s earned it,” said Alexander.

“It must be hard, it must always be difficult to get into a first team.

“Whether anybody will come in is yet to see.

“But I wouldn’t expect loads of lads to come in.

“We’ve made great progress already with the one’s we’ve brought through and I still want to finish the season strongly.

“We’ll pick the teams we feel are good enough for the games and take it from there.”

Fleetwood face Doncaster Rovers tomorrow – a dead rubber tie with both sides trading blows for mid-table position.

But they could yet have a say in the race for League One survival.

Colchester United are the final visitors to Highbury this term, heading north a week tomorrow.

The Us are currently second bottom of the table, three points from safety.
