It continued the trend of rampant form in pre-season matches – the Coasters had scored 14 goals before Saturday’s one-sided romp.

They were set on their way against New Mills with a goal by Ryan Charnley after 19 minutes, but New Mills equalised thanks to Daniel Grimshaw. However, parity did not last long.

Joe Booth and Danny Lloyd both netted and by half-time Dave Challinor’s men were 3-1 to the good.

The Coasters lived up to their name in the second period as they continued to pile the pressure on their hapless hosts, with Glenn Steel getting his name on the score sheet within minutes of the re-start.

Soon after Michael Barnes scored to put the match well and truly beyond the home side’s reach.

There was a lull in the scoring action until six minutes from the finish. This time Aaron Fleming cleverly beat home goalkeeper Ryan Pugh to a centre by Barnes at the near-post.

AFC Fylde visit Prescot Cables tomorrow night for another friendly.
