Neil McDonald appointed new Limerick FC boss

McDonald, who was in charge at Bloomfield Road when Blackpool were relegated to League Two, has signed a two-year contract with the League of Ireland Premier Division side.

The manager's post at Limerick has been vacant since the club parted company with previous manager Martin Russell at the start of April.

McDonald, who has also managed Carlisle United and Swedish side Ostersunds, only won 13 of his 50 games at Blackpool.

His last job came at Hull City where he was appointed head coach, a role he left in January of this year following the sacking of Mike Phelan.

McDonald has worked on a number of occasions in the past with Sam Allardyce who cut his own managerial teeth in Limerick.

He was the assistant manager to the current Crystal Palace boss at Blackburn Rovers and West Ham, having initially worked with ‘Big Sam’ at Bolton Wanderers.
