Morris thrilled to get back in scoring habit early for Fleetwood Town

The midfielder opened the scoring as Town made it two pre-season wins out of two with a 2-0 victory away to Stockport County.
The 28-year-old Morris is looking forward to his second full campaign as a Fleetwood player, though he has topped 100 games for the club following two earlier stints on loan from Blackburn Rovers, who Town welcome to Highbury for their next pre-season assignment on Saturday.

Hide AdMorris has scored 20 goals in Fleetwood colours and is pleased to have got back on the goal trail already.
He said of his goal at Stockport’s Carrington training base: “The ball was slipped through and I took a good touch. The keeper came out and I just slid it underneath him. It was a nice finish and nice to get off the mark.
“Fingers crossed I can build on this in the upcoming season. I always try my best to score and help assist some others, so hopefully that will set me up now for the season”
Morris was delighted to score but is pleased just to be playing again, having also featured in last week’s 4-2 victory over Carlisle United.

Hide AdHe added: “We’ve had a couple of weeks on the training pitch but it’s always nice to get back out on the pitch on a Saturday and even score a goal.
“It was a good workout and, more importantly, a professional performance. We passed the ball round well and took our chances when we needed to.
“We’ve got some good friendlies coming up (Town also visit Huddersfield Town a week on Wednesday), so it’s all about hard work as we prep for the season.”
While most League One teams have not played a competitive game for more than four months, Fleetwood were in action just six weeks ago in their play-off semi-finals against Wycombe.

Hide AdAnd Morris feels fitness is not issue, adding: “We’ve worked hard in the close season. Obviously we were in for the play-offs, so we’ve not had that much of a break. It’s good to just get back going.
“It’s nice to get the games up and running again, so you aren’t on the training pitch all the time. You get the feel back in your legs and I think it’s much better than training.”
