The Seasiders lost for the second game running after going down to a 3-1 defeat, with all three goals coming as a result of defensive errors.

But Pool remain well in contention for a play-off spot and Mellor insists they must move on and focus on their five remaining games.

“We have to get Grimsby out of our system as soon as possible,” he said.

“Thankfully there’s two games coming up over the Easter weekend and they’re not going to be easy. They’re going to be tough games.

“We’ve just to go into them as positive as we can and hopefully we’ll pick up two good results.

“The lads were frustrated after the Grimsby game, that includes myself. Obviously the staff were frustrated as well. But we can’t dwell on it and we must look forward and keep going.”

The Seasiders will be looking to get back to winning ways against Lancashire neighbours Accrington Stanley this afternoon, before making the trip to league leaders Doncaster Rovers on Easter Monday.

John Coleman’s Stanley outfit and currently the league’s in-form side having won eight out of their last 13 games, and Mellor is aware of the threat they will pose.

“We know it’s going to be a tough game,” the 26-year-old said. “They’re a footballing side and we know what they’re all about.

“It’s going to change all the time around the play-off positions because it’s so tight. We’re just outside now but we just need to take it game by game.”
