McDonald hails Pool while Robins blasts Scunthorpe

A double from Brad Potts was added to by Tom Aldred, David Norris and Danny Philliskirk as Blackpool won 5-0 to take them out of the League One drop zone.

Aldred headed them into the lead just two minutes into the game before Potts gave Pool a 3-0 lead at the break with two neat finishes.

The midfielder’s double was added to by first Pool goals for David Norris and Danny Philliskirk in a game the manager claimed was the team’s best yet.

“It was our best performance of the season, without a shadow of a doubt,” he said.

“Both in attacking and defensive play I thought we were spot on.

“We started on with a tempo which was too much for Scunthorpe and the when the chances came along we stuck the ball in the back of the net.

“A 5-0 win is as good as it gets for a manager.

“We work hard on creating chances and when we did on Saturday we were clinical.

“Even when we were clear ahead we asked for a clean sheet and Colin Doyle pulled off a great save at the end to keep it.”

The result moves Blackpool above Fleetwood (who saw their game at Rochdale called off due to a frozen pitch) and out of the League One drop zone.

It piled pressure on Scunthorpe boss Mark Robins, and it’s fair to say he was less than happy.

He blasted: “Abject, poor, angry, disappointed and disappointed. Those are words I’d associate with that performance.

“It was really, really poor and I don’t think there’s anything positive I can take out of it.

“Credit to Blackpool but that will be the easiest five goals they ever score.

“From the second minute onwards it was very disappointing.

“It was one of the poorest performances I’ve ever seen.”
