McDonald blames referee as Pool lose again

Marc-Antoine Fortune slammed home a 26th minute winner against the struggling Seasiders, who remain two points away from safety in the League One drop zone.

Despite it being another poor afternoon for his side who created very few clear-cut chances, McDonald opted to blame referee Mark Brown for defeat.

He said: “It was a difficult afternoon and we were done by a set-piece which was a blatant foul on the goal keeper.

“I’ve seen the video and it’s a foul, the centre forward nudged Colin and then tapped it in.

“There wasn’t much in the game although we had a couple of decent chances.

“The games are never going to be free-flowing at this stage of the season.

“We need points now to get us out of the bottom four.”

On a scrappy afternoon of little chances, Coventry ended a run of four straight defeats with a display which delighted boss Tony Mowbray.

He said: ““I thought the team played with heart, soul and they put everything on the line to win the game.

“Their defending late in the game showed how much they wanted to put an end to this bad run.

“They were throwing their bodies in front of things and gave everything we got.”

Blackpool thought they had stolen a point five minutes into stoppage time when Bright Osyai-Samuel nipped in front of keeper Charles-Cook to turn the ball into the net, only for referee Brown to spot it was actually the winger’s hand getting the final touch.
