On a wet and miserable day in Blackpool, the two sides at the wrong end of the league knew that a win for either side would be important to pull them away from the bottom clubs.

Gate went close after 20 minutes when Max Rothwell had an effort cleared off the line but they took the lead three minutes later.

Ryan Riley was crowded out in the box with the referee ruling that he had been fouled and Gary Pett keeping his cool to score his 14th of the season from the spot.

Gate almost had a quickfire second as Pett burst into the box, but on this occasion, the keeper managed to save the shot with his face.

The visitors would be next to go close as Joe Shaw saw his free-kick go the wrong side of the post before top goalscorer Tom Bailey could only guide a cross off target as Gate led 1-0 at the break.

The second half opened with Dean Ing almost scoring a superb solo goal, taking a touch too many as he reached the box and allowing West to clear.

The visitors showed their danger on the hour mark as they broke on the counter but the move ended when Shaw fired wide.

Scott Harries volleyed off target midway through the second half but the turning point came on 83 minutes when Bailey headed the visitors level.

He then fired them to all three points when a second penalty of the day was awarded, even though Gate argued the challenge that was penalised had actually taken place outside the area.
