Both sides could have snatched victory with Michael Harriman coming closest for Wanderers in the first half and Pool testing Wycombe keeper Jamal Blackman in the second 45 minutes.

Pool boss Gary Bowyer had named an unchanged starting XI from the side which drew at Barnet on Tuesday.

That meant new arrival Armand Gnanduillet had to be content with a place on the bench in place of Henry Cameron; the only change altogether from the 18 on duty in midweek.

However, Bowyer saw his unchanged team under pressure for most of the first half.

Pool’s Andy Taylor was off target with an early sighter from the corner of the Wycombe area but it was the visitors who enjoyed most of the chances.

Danny Rowe fired over from 20 yards, Marcus Bean prodded weakly at Pool keeper Sam Slocombe, who was also alert enough to keep out Joe Jacobson’s effort at his near post.

The nearest either side came to scoring was on 25 minutes when Garry Thompson’s long throw found its way to Harriman, whose effort hit the underside of the bar and bounced clear of goal.

Nick Freeman also saw a header comfortably held by Slocombe and half-volleyed wide before the Seasiders ended the half in decent fashion.

Colin Daniel twice had opportunities; a header lacked power before he mishit Danny Pugh’s corner which had been pulled back to him.

Pool’s best first-half chance, however, fell to Brad Potts nine minutes before the break but he headed Mark Cullen’s cross wide from inside the six-yard box.

Jacobson and Akinfenwa were both off target in the second half but it was the home side which finished the stronger.

Potts fired over from another Pugh corner and had an effort deflected behind, seconds before Cullen found space and saw his shot pushed over by Blackman.

Seconds later and Blackman was in action again, diving to his right in turning behind Jim McAlister’s long-range attempt.

With time running out, Kelvin Mellor prodded off target from another Pugh corner as honours ended well and truly even.
