Let's leave nothing else to luck, says Blackpool ace Daniel

Colin Daniel has admitted his Blackpool side can consider themselves slightly fortunate to still have their play-off destiny in their own hands.

Despite going down to a 1-0 defeat at Notts County, the Seasiders remain in the top seven after other results went their way on Saturday.

It means Pool will be guaranteed a play-off place if they beat bottom-of-the-table and already relegated Leyton Orient at Bloomfield Road on Saturday evening.

Daniel said: “We might be lucky to still be in there but our goal difference will play a huge part,

“If we can get the three points against Leyton Orient, then we will be all right.

“Every time we have lost a game this season we have always bounced back well. We’ve got a good group here, so I’m sure we’ll do it again.”

Gary Bowyer’s side could have all but guaranteed a play-off spot with a win at Meadow Lane, but the race will go down to the final day after Richard Duffy scored the only goal of the game.

That strike compounded what had been a miserable afternoon for the Seasiders, who could only muster two shots on target.

To concede the winner from a set-piece disappointed Daniel, who said Pool had known what to expect.

When asked to put his finger on what went wrong, the 29-year-old admitted too many players in tangerine just didn’t turn up.

Daniel said: “It can happen sometimes. We just didn’t get lucky to get the bounce of the ball.

“It just didn’t happen for us but it did for them. Sometimes that’s just how it goes.

“We knew we were going to come up against loads of balls into the box and we had to deal with it. But we didn’t do that for their goal.

“We didn’t deal with the second ball and we got punished. We knew it was going to be a tough place to go to because they’re on a good bit of form under their new management. But too many of us didn’t turn up.

“When too many players aren’t at it, you’re more than likely going to lose the game.

“But it’s still in our own hands and we’ve got to put it right on Saturday. We know that if we get the three points we’re in the play-offs.”

All of Saturday’s League Two matches will kick-off at 5.30pm.
