Blackpool’s ex-players’ association is hosting its third legends night later this month to pay tribute to Billy Ayre’s Division Four promotion winning team.

The Seasiders saw off Scunthorpe United on penalties at Wembley to clinch their return to England’s third tier.

The event will take place at Viva Blackpool, based on Church Street, from 7pm on Thursday, May 25.

Organiser John Cross said: “This event came about at the request of a couple of our former players who played in the final against Scunthorpe 25 years ago - Mitch Cook and Mike Davies.

“They approached me at the end of last year asking if I knew that May 2017 would be 25 years since Billy Ayre’s team won at Wembley and that they would like to get the lads together for a reunion.

“I told them that it would be great to celebrate much happier times at Blackpool and that I would put an event on.
