Jayson Leutwiler feels the point Fleetwood Town gained at Portsmouth on Tuesday shows the togetherness and fight within the squad.

Town played out a 0-0 draw at Fratton Park against fellow promotion chasers Pompey, who currently occupy second spot.

The point left Fleetwood into 10th, three points off the play-off places.

Town’s Canadian keeper feels his side showed grit in keeping the ball out of the net.

“Brilliant point,” he said. “We showed desire and brotherhood.

“We all stuck together and I think got the point we deserved.

“We knew they were going to be a strong side and would start the game well, and the clean sheets are very important.

“The more you get the better your chance of getting promotion.

“The desire to keep the ball out of the net is always there.

“Sometimes it works and sometimes not, but today it worked well and last week as well so we’re really happy.

“Their keeper made a really good save from Charlie Mulgrew right at the end and over the whole game the draw was the fair result.”

Town have played back-to- back away games in front of fans over the past week at Swindon Town and Portsmouth.

Fleetwood’s current first-choice stopper is hoping that will soon be the case for home games, although Lancashire is set to remain under tier three restrictions at least until the New Year.

Leutwiler described playing in front of specatators as “proper” football, adding: “It’s absolutely brilliant to be playing in front of fans again, and I really hope for us it is going to turn soon for Lancashire and all of the north to be able to play in front of fans.

“It’s proper football again and doesn’t feel like a friendly game. I really hope we can play in front of our own fans.

“In front of the away fans you sometimes hear some sounds you don’t like but it’s part of football and that’s why we play the game. It’s a better atmosphere and everything is much better.”

Attention turns to tomorrow’s home clash with Wigan Athletic and the 31-year-old is backing his side to come away with the right result.

“I think everyone in the squad is fit and healthy, and the competition is really high and that’s good for us,” he said.

“We have to go against Wigan on Saturday and be confident of getting three points. We are at home and we have to make sure we get the win.”
