It's points, not performances now, says McDonald

Huge pressure is on both sides as the Seasiders travel to Crewe tomorrow for a good, old fashioned relegation six-pointer.

While Blackpool’s boss has talked of misfortune and unlucky defeats so far this season, he is now simply focussed on winning, no matter how bad it is on the eye.

“I’ll take our worst performance of the season for a win on Saturday, certainly,” he said. “Results are what it’s all about now, without a shadow of a doubt. If we don’t play very well but we get the points, everyone will be happy.

“We must keep on believing we can get points to move us up that league.

“We’ve been in the relegation zone before this season and got ourselves out of it, so we can do it again.”

Pool went into their shells after Oldham broke the deadlock on Tuesday night, a game McDonald’s men lost 1-0.

And he has called for much stronger character ahead of today’s game, insisting: “People need to stand up and be counted and try and make the difference.

“Hopefully someone can give us that spark which can make all the difference.

“We also need to score first, we’ve come from behind to draw before but we haven’t won.”

For Crewe the situation is just as crucial, with Steve Davis’ men five points behind Blackpool, although they do have a game in hand.

And McDonald expects a tough game, but one they can win.

“They have a reputation of playing football and trying to do the right thing,” he said.

“We expect them to try and do that again.

“If we defend well and put the ball in the back of the net I suspect we’ll play well.”
