Grezza hails landmark victory over Blades

“We’re so pleased for the players,” said Alexander.

“I thought they were superb. They showed great composure and discipline throughout the performance.

“They showed every aspect you need to get a victory. We scored two fantastic goals and it’s a fantastic day for everyone connected with the club.

“To come to a giant like this, in our first season in League One and get a victory, it’s fantastic day for us all.”

Alexander, who works alongside many of the men who were in on the ground level of Fleetwood’s revival, knows what the day means to those at the club.

He said: “Everybody should be proud of the club today. The supporters were superb. There are people who have been involved for so long for whom this is a big moment.

“I was speaking to (kit man) Danny Moore before the game and he was shaking his head.

“He’s been here since the start and to see Fleetwood come to Bramall Lane, competing on the same level.

“Then to get three points is fanastic.”

Alexander admits matchwinner Nick Haughton may not have been in the side. “We were contemplating whether to rest him,” said the Fleeetwood boss. “He’s played two tough games this week, hard shifts.

“It was a great goal to win any game. It’s fantastic for him and I’m sure it will give him even more confidence.

Antoni Sarcevic will miss next Saturday’s home fixture against Rochdale having had his ban extended.

The midfielder was sent off for the use of foul and abusive language at Chesterfield.

Alexander said: “It’s a blow, to Sarce more than anybody.”
