Evans stroked the ball home in the 18th minute after David Ball’s shot had been saved by Glenn Morris.

It was the most the visitors deserved from a dominant first half display - Ball, a handful for the Gills alongside Jamie Proctor nearly doubling the tally with a back post drive.

The vistors turned up the heat after the break and could have levelled when a deflected Aaron Norris hit the woodwork.

David Ball almost put the game beyond the hosts when he went one-on-one with Morris, the keeper positioned well to block.

Sub Ash Hunter had a chance when he almost stole the ball off the toes of the Gills keeper.

But it was the man in the net at the other end who earned Town the points at the death.

Adam Chicksen gave away a free kick on the edge of the box, Amari’i Bell’s header bound for the bottom corner but for a superb diving save to secure the points.
