The visitors scored 10 of them and Andrew led the way, despite starting the game on the bench. There was also a hat-trick for Lewis Hiley, while Dan Cook, Elliot Collings and Jake Prosser were also on target for the Yellows.

St Annes’ top striker Max Robinson played in goal, and after a close start to the game his side were six up at half-time as manager Steve Robinson’s strategy paid off.

He explained: “James played Max’s usual role but spent the first 15 minutes on the bench, so he could watch the game and see where the gaps were.”

Sweeper-keeper Robinson wasn’t for staying out of the attacking action either and claimed two assists, one from a well-aimed clearance and the other dribbling out from the back.

A year younger than most of his team-mates, four-goal Andrew was man of the match, while centre-back Joel Renton was also outstanding as the pacesetting Yellows made it three wins out of three.

The Clarets kept their spirits up and were rewarded with three second-half goals from Joel Walker, with a cracking long-range shot, Ryan Stephenson and Korey Willis. Their player of the match was keeper Josh Gearing for a series of outstanding saves.

Assistant boss Andrew Farnworth said: “The second half was better after a very slow start, but with games being postponed it’s hard to build momentum.”

This was the only Under-16 match in the B&DYL to go ahead due to school isolations, though all matches at younger levels took place, despite the wet weather across the Fylde coast.

The Under-7s were not deterred and played some great football, showing how much they had improved their skills and overall play in the development matches.

There were some close matches in the U9s, showing how they continue their development and learning. Despite the weather they all had fun and enjoyed the games.

It was great to see the young referees wearing the yellow armbands to remind everyone they too are young people and still learning.
