Blackpool are unbeaten in six but Nathan Delfouneso, one of their midweek heroes at Plymouth, is keeping his feet on the ground.

The Seasiders have maintained the momentum which saw them promoted to League One and are fifth in the table after picking up their first away win of the season on Tuesday. Delfouneso shook off the illness that kept him out of Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Scunthorpe to come off the bench and net the final goal in the 3-1 win over the Pilgrims.

Only five of those who featured in May’s play-off final at Wembley played at Plymouth this week. Delfouneso is one and says all the new faces are fitting in well, though there is a long way to go.

He said: “There are a lot of good characters in the team. We have come up against different situations and I think we have stood up to them.

“For some it is a learning curve. The boys are coming through together.

“No matter who is on the pitch, everyone is putting the work in and you can see it is paying off. But this is only the start– we have got to continue and look to improve.”

Gary Bowyer is not yet looking at the league table as Pool prepare for Saturday’s home clash with Oxford and Delfouneso is following the manager’s lead.

He said: “I never had a clue how many points we have but it is clear we have started strong. The confidence is high but we cannot get carried away.

“It is another game gone. Now we recover, prepare and go again.”

Newcastle loanee Sean Longstaff was also back in action like Delfouneso on Tuesday night and now he is looking to build on their away win with another home victory.

He said: “I was devastated to miss Saturday.

“But the boys went to a very tough place and got a good result.

“I was happy to be back involved on Tueday and I’m sure Longy will say the same as well.

“Three points and the first away win of the season and we have got to build on that.

“We said before the game that we wanted to build on a very good point on Saturday.

“We did that and I think we have got a big game Saturday at home.

“We will always look to be strong at home and try and make it a fortress, we will prepare, recover and go again.”
